Storage & Packing Tips

Packing Tips

  • Use uniform size boxes when possible (available at Maxim)
  • Use wardrobe boxes to hang clothes or fold and store in dresser drawers
  • Wrap glassware such as dishes, cups, glasses etc. individually and then wrap in bundles of four with bubble wrap
  • Mirrors, screens or windows should be wrapped in cardboard and stored on an edge
  • Lawn mowers, rototillers, etc. should be cleaned of debris and have batteries disconnected

Storage Tips

  • Use uniform size boxes when possible (available at Maxim)
  • Create an aisle so you can easily access the things you need
  • Label boxes on all sides
  • Make a list of the contents
  • Pack items that you will be frequently accessing towards the front – common sense, we know.
  • Use bubble wrap, styrofoam chips and plain newsprint to protect breakable items
  • Mark ‘Fragile’ on boxes where needed
  • Label each box with a different colored sticker to identify each room
  • Lift contents off the concrete using palettes (available at Maxim)
  • Use oil-protective pads under all motors to protect the floor from any leaks or spills
  • Take apart large items such as bed frames, tables, etc. This will save space and prevent them from breaking. Be sure to keep all parts together. Keep screws and smaller items handy by taping them to the larger item they belong to.
  • If storing appliances be sure to clean them out first! Leave the door slightly open on refrigerators and microwaves to prevent mildew. Deter odor with an open box baking soda.
